Choosing a new playground for your school can be an exciting time but for some schools it can be a bit daunting. At Imagination Play we want you to make the best possible choice to ensure you maximise your play space and get the most out of your budget, whatever that may be.
Below are 4 things to consider for your school play equipment choice.
Establish the budget for your new playground
Firstly work out how much exactly you want to spend and stick with it. Do you have the money ready to go or do you need to fun-raise any or even apply for a school playground grant?
Budgets vary greatly and can depend on your area size, the design itself or materials used in the construction.
Where is your playground going?
Where is the location in your school for this new playground? Is it in a safe and viewable area for staff to visually see children at play. Do you want the playground to be seen as people drive by for more aesthetic emphasis on your school itself? Are there other trees and shade nearby to assist with shading the playground equipment on hot days, etc?
What age group and number of children will be using the equipment?
This question is very important to determine what type of playground components are to be used. For example more senior children will require overhead equipment such as monkey bars to be a lot higher than the junior section. Senior children will require more challenging components as well such as climbing, balancing and higher obstacles to not only challenge them but increase their abilities.
Establish how many users could potentially be playing on your new playground is also an important factor. A small playground for hundreds of children will be become congested and will require split play times to break up the numbers.
Who is the decision maker of this new equipment?
Generally speaking the school principal can be the decision maker of the new playground but many times there can be other processes such as fundraising committees or even P&C associations to project manage, fund raise and decide on the new structure.
